Flagstone creates a warm, natural look but it can also subtly create drama, as often the stones are nice and large, and come dry laid flagstone is a nice alternative to that, for a simple backyard getaway.

To finish, fill cracks between stones with gravel, or―to hold flagstones more firmly―use something smaller like decomposed granite. Have used several rubber flagstones for a year in the backyard for a muddy area under a tree that our german shepherd leaps onto several times a day.
