Whether sidewalks are located on one side or both sides of a street depends on density of development, as we have seen. Sidewalks, specifically paved sidewalks, are an important piece of a walking route to school. The width of the sidewalk contributes to the degree of comfort and enjoyment of walking along a street.
A narrow sidewalk that would barely allow one person to walk on would be about 50cm wide.
